Wild Turkey
(Meleagris gallopavo)

Size: 46 inches


Tom (male)


Male Adult:
A large dark turkey with red-bronze iridescent body feathers. Wings are barred white. Head unfeathered. Chest tuft of hair-like feathers distinguishes him from the hen and immature. Turkeys have strong thick feet.

Female adult: Smaller than the tom, duller in color and iridescence.  

Immature: Similar to hen. 

Habitat: Forest habitats and grasslands.

A Florida resident.
