Ideal for young explorers and their parents, the ECHO Ranger program will offer four "kick-off" events in the fall and officially get under way in October.

Sponsored by DeBary Hall  Historic Site and the County of Volusia, the ECHO Ranger program for youngsters in grades 2 - 5 provides hands-on experiences related to Volusia County’s many Ecological, Cultural, Heritage and Outdoors offerings. More than 30 sites - including museums, parks and libraries - are participating from all areas of Volusia County.

The program runs from October through June. Children and a parent are encouraged to complete the program’s registration form.

Children invited to join kick-off meetings start Sept. 10

Children in grades 2 - 5 are invited to join Volusia County’s ECHO Rangers program, a hands-on educational 10-month program featuring the county’s ecological, cultural, heritage and outdoor resources.

The program is offered from September through June at more than 40 sites including parks, museums, libraries and historical sites. Participants are asked to visit at least eight sites and participate in specially designed ECHO Ranger activities.

For instance, children and their parents can study animal tracks and scat at Hickory Bluff Preserve, learn the history of Ponce Inlet at Lighthouse Point Park, and take a free art and photography lesson at the Southeast Museum of Photography.

Children and parents can learn more about the program at the following kick-off meetings:

  • 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at DeBary Hall Historic Site, 210 Sunrise Blvd., DeBary
  • 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Southeast Museum of Photography, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd., Building 1200, Daytona Beach
  • 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Museum of Arts and Sciences, 352 S. Nova Road, Daytona Beach
  • 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at DeBary Hall Historic Site
