School field trips to the Marine Science Center

Our mission

To provide an innovative learning experience where visitors can discover, enjoy, and appreciate the many wonders that embody the world of marine science in Volusia County.

Our programs

Our School Field Trips offer four different components; a tour through the exhibit gallery, a visit to the Sea Turtle and Seabird Rehabilitation areas, and a educational program beside the Ponce Inlet at Lighthouse Point Park beach.

  • Kindergarten through twelfth grade can be accommodated. Field trip curriculum covers a range of environmental topics from endangered species to Florida ecosystems.

  • The programs offered coordinate with curricula objectives of Sunshine State Standards. For further information and codes covered, please see the Sunshine state standards (pdf format).

  • Programs are offered Tuesday through Friday for groups up to forty students. Programs start at 10:00 and can last till 1:30. When registering let the coordinator know time availability and travel time from your school.

  • The fee is $3 per student. Tax-exempt fees are available. Individual students must bring their lunch, as it is not included in the fee. The lunch break will be held at the Lighthouse Point Pavilion or the MSC back deck. Time arrangements for lunch will be made with scheduling teacher. For every 10 students, one teacher or chaperone gets in for free. Other participating adults are $6.

  • Students will have an opportunity to make purchases in our gift shop with approval from teacher. Please let the coordinator know when registering if your school wants shopping time.
