Volusia County ECHO Ranger Program

Ideal for young explorers and their parents, the ECHO Ranger program is starting again this October by DeBary Hall historic site and the County of Volusia. Several kickoff dates have been set for late September and early October.

A program for youth in grades 2 - 5, the ECHO Ranger program provides hands-on experiences related to Volusia County’s many Ecological, Cultural, Heritage and Outdoors offerings. More than 40 sites - including museums, parks and libraries - are participating from all areas of Volusia County.

The program will begin at several sites in October and continues through June 2008. Youths and a parent are encouraged to complete the program’s registration form (available at DeBary Hall or online at debaryhall.com) and participate in one of the kickoff events.

Attending a kick-off event will give families the opportunity to receive clear information about how the program works, ask questions about the program, register their students for the program, and receive their ECHO I.D. badges and “Passports to Adventure” (families must bring check or money order made out to Volusia County Leisure Services in the amount of $15. Cash or charge will not be accepted), and obtain more information before making the decision to commit. ECHO Ranger kickoff events will be:

  • 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, at Museum of Arts & Sciences, Daytona Beach (352 S. Nova Road)
  • 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, Atlantic Center for the Arts (1414 Art Center Dr., New Smyrna Beach)
  • 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4 at DeBary Hall (210 Sunrise Blvd.)
  • 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6 at DeBary Hall

The ECHO Ranger passport explains the opportunities at many different sites throughout the program. ECHO Rangers visit a minimum of eight sites during the program and participate in a specially designed ECHO Ranger activity at each location. Participants take their passport to each site and receive an ECHO Ranger stamp when they complete that site’s activity or program. Youths who earn at least eight stamps will graduate from the program next June and become an official ECHO Ranger.
