: In 1605, the Spanish governor of Florida, Alvero Mexia, explored the coast from Ormond Beach to St. Augustine. He led his men up a heavily forested peninsula separating the Tomoka and Halifax rivers. Near the junction of these rivers, he discovered the Timucan Indian village Nocoroco. Explore this beautiful peninsula. Activity description*: December 14 - Seminole camp - Visit a Native American encampment. See how they lived, hunted and survived. February 8 - Blacksmithing - Learn by watching the techniques and craftsmanship of a blacksmith. March 8 - Fabric day - Discover the old way to make the fabric and textiles the early settlers needed. Try spinning, weaving, sock making and quilting. April 12 - Civil War camp - Experience a live Civil War Union camp, complete with firing canons. The reenactors will share a part of history with you. May 10 - Trapper camp - Imagine trapping in the 1700s! Learn about cooking, animal pelts, food traps, muskets and knives. * Activities may change without notice.
