Site description: In 1605, the Spanish governor of Florida, Alvero Mexia, explored the coast from Ormond Beach to St. Augustine. He led his men up a heavily forested peninsula separating the Tomoka and Halifax rivers. Near the junction of these rivers, he discovered the Timucan Indian village Nocoroco. Explore this beautiful peninsula.
